夢か現か幻か — 1980年代から絵画制作に力を注いできた画家、須藤美保は、和服を纏ううら若き女性と花をテーマとした、艶やかで官能的な油彩画で知られる画家です。あでやかでありながら儚さを孕んだ美しさ、そして短命でありながらも咲き誇る生命力を湛え、確かな存在感を放つモチーフを描いた作品は、深くしっとりとした色彩と緻密な描写によって、唯一無二の世界を築いています。
西新宿のヒルトン東京 地下1階に位置するフジギャラリー新宿では、須藤美保による展覧会を 11月1日（土）より12月7日（日）まで開催いたします。本展では、こぼれんばかりに咲き誇る花と、大人びた表情を見せる和服姿の少女という対比が印象的な作品のほか、花をテーマとした油彩画や水彩画を多数展示いたします。

<アーティスト・ステートメント / Artist’s Statement>
子供のころから女の子を描くのが好きで、そのまま大人になって画家として在っても まだ女の子を描いています。可愛い顔が好きかとも思うし、何かしら物語性のある不思議さを表現したいのかと自分の表現志向を考えてもいるのです。花を描くのもやはり好きで描いている のです。好きなものを好きなように描いて暮らしていけて、幸せな人生を送っていますね。
でも、自分のイメージ通りに描けているかというと、そうでもなく、完成した作品を眺めていると改善点が見えたり、やり直したくなったりと葛藤の日々です。可愛いだけの女の子ではなく、引き込まれるような魅力をもって欲しいし、ただあるだけの花ではなくその存在を強く主張するものとして表現したいなど、オリジナリティの追求はやむことなく過ごしていくのだと思います。 そんな思いで描いた作品を並べていただき、多くの方に見ていただき、自己を振り返る個展の機会がありがたいと思っています

Dream, Reality, or Illusion— Since the 1980s, artist Miho Sudo has devoted herself to painting, becoming known for her sensuous and alluring oil paintings that depict youthful women in traditional kimono alongside blooming flowers.
Her works, which capture motifs that radiate a vivid sense of life despite their fleeting existence, evoke a beauty that is both glamorous and ephemeral. With their profound, velvety colors and masterful technique, these paintings create a world entirely her own. FUJI GALLERY SHINJUKU, located on the basement floor of Hilton Tokyo in Nishi-Shinjuku, will hold an exhibition of Miho Sudo’s works from Saturday, November 1 to Sunday, December 7.
The exhibition will feature paintings that strikingly contrast exuberantly blooming flowers with graceful, kimono-clad girls of a mature expression, as well as a wide selection of other oil and watercolor works themed around flowers.

Artist statement
Ever since I was a child, I have loved drawing girls, and even as an adult painter, I find myself still depicting them. Perhaps it’s because I am drawn to beautiful faces, or maybe it’s because I wish to express something mysterious — something that suggests a story beyond what is visible. I also love painting flowers, simply because I enjoy them. Being able to paint what I love, in the way I wish, and to live such a life feels like a blessing.
Yet, when I look at my finished works, I often notice areas I could improve or feel the urge to start over. These moments of inner conflict are part of my everyday practice. I don’t want to paint girls who are merely “cute,” but ones who possess a charm that draws the viewer in. Likewise, I hope to portray flowers not as passive objects, but as presences that assert their very existence. The pursuit of originality, I believe, is something that will always continue for me.
I am deeply grateful for this solo exhibition—an opportunity to display the works born of such thoughts, to have many people see them, and to reflect on myself through the process.
