色と視認性

本展は、「色」を主題として毎年継続的に開催している展覧会の第3回目にあたります。今回は、初夏の季節に呼応する色として、橙と黄に焦点を当てます。これらの色は高い明度と彩度を持ち、空間の中で強い視覚的強度を示します。

一方、橙と黄は現代社会において「高視認性（High Visibility）」の色として機能し、注意喚起や警告の場面で広く用いられています。工事現場の標識、レスキュー用装備、信号表示、デジタルデバイス上のアラートなどにおいて、これらの色は視線の誘導や情報の強調に用いられています。

本展では、このような機能的側面を持つ色彩を起点とし、橙および黄が作品ごとにどのように 用いられているかを提示します。同じ暖色系の色であっても、作家の主題、素材、構成の違いによって、視覚的な印象は異なります。

出展アーティスト

青木愛弓

コラージュと絵具による筆致を組み合わせ、複数の視覚的要素を一つの画面上に重ねる手法を用いています。断片的なイメージや記憶に由来するモチーフを再配置することで、時間の経過に伴って変化する風景の構造を画面上に構築しています。

伊藤朋子

近接した色相による色彩構成を基盤とし、対象物とその周囲の空間を同一の色調の中で描いています。輪郭線による分離を抑え、色の連続によって画面を成立させることで、対象と空間の関係を一体的に示しています。

下向恵子

目に見えない存在や現象への関心を出発点とし、日本神話や伝承に基づくモチーフを用いて制作を行っています。『古事記』に記述される神々を物質的な存在としてではなく、エネルギー的な存在として捉え、それらを画面上に定着させています。

谷村メイチン ロマーナ

発泡ウレタンやグルースティックなどの素材を用いて立体作品を制作しています。素材の物質的特性を活かしながら、有機的な形態と鮮やかな色彩を組み合わせ、キャラクター性を持つ造形を構築しています。

松下誠子

社会制度や日常的な規範と個人の認識とのあいだに生じる差異を主題としています。複数の形式を用いてそれらの関係を整理し、個人の感覚と社会的構造との不一致を具体的な形として提示しています。

本展は、「視認性」という観点から橙と黄を扱い、それらの色が持つ機能と現れ方を、作品を通して提示するものです。

Color and Visibility

This exhibition marks the third installment in an ongoing series dedicated to the theme of color. In this iteration, orange and yellow are considered in relation to the early summer season. Characterized by high luminosity and chromatic intensity, these colors assert a strong visual presence within space.

At the same time, orange and yellow function in contemporary society as “high visibility” colors, widely used in contexts that require attention or caution. They appear in construction signage, emergency equipment, traffic signals, and digital alerts, where they guide perception and emphasize information.

Taking these functional aspects of color as a point of departure, the exhibition explores how orange and yellow are employed across individual works. Despite belonging to the same range of warm hues, their visual effects differ according to each artist’s subject, materials, and compositional approach.

Artists

Ayumi Aoki

combines collage with painterly gestures, layering multiple visual elements within a single pictorial space. By rearranging fragmentary images and motifs derived from memory, she constructs visual structures that reflect the shifting nature of landscapes over time.

Tomoko Ito

develops compositions based on closely related hues, depicting objects and their surrounding space within a unified color field. By minimizing contour lines and relying on the continuity of color, her work presents objects and space as an integrated whole.

Keiko Shimomukai

begins with an interest in invisible presences and phenomena, drawing on motifs rooted in Japanese mythology and folklore. Interpreting the deities described in the Kojiki, not as material entities but as forms of energy, she gives them visual form on the pictorial surface.

Romana Machin Tanimura

creates sculptural works using materials such as urethane foam and glue sticks. Emphasizing their physical properties, she constructs organic forms with vivid colors, resulting in character-like figures.

Seiko Matsushita

addresses the discrepancies that arise between social systems, everyday norms, and individual perception. Through a range of formats, she examines these relationships and gives form to the tension between personal sensibility and social structures.

This exhibition considers orange and yellow through the lens of visibility, presenting both their functional roles and their varied manifestations through the works on view.
